President's Message:

Welcome back, SHEA Members!

Much has transpired since the leadership crisis that unfolded last spring. In the months following our vote of no confidence, we have witnessed significant change — including the resignation of a building administrator and the early retirement of the Assistant Superintendent. These developments serve as reminders that our collective voice has power, and that accountability matters.

I could not be more proud of our membership. When faced with turmoil, frustration, and uncertainty, we chose courage. We came together as professionals — veteran educators mentoring newer voices, uniting around a shared commitment to our students, our colleagues, and our values. Together, we demonstrated that when strength in numbers is guided by a common good, even the most difficult challenges can be overcome.

We learned something essential about ourselves and our district: we can improve our school community and advance our profession, even in uncertain times. When it felt as though things could not get worse, we stood our ground, pushed the pendulum back, and took our district back with integrity and resolve.

Our efforts also made a difference beyond our walls. We gathered support from parents and community members who recognized that our concerns were real — and could no longer be ignored. Sweet Home has always expected excellence from its students and staff. It is only right that we expect the same from those who lead us. We cannot become complacent. When a crisis emerges, it is our responsibility to sound the alarm, to protect the integrity of our schools, and to uphold the standards that make this district great.

It has taken time and courage to ensure the truth was heard. It will take more time to rebuild trust and restore excellence in leadership. But make no mistake — we will get there. Because we all deserve better.

In solidarity,

Paul Szymendera
