President's Message:
Welcome to 2025! A new calendar year brings fresh opportunities to grow, reconnect, and continue advocating for what matters most—our students, our profession, and one another.
As we step into February, we also honor the strength found in our collective diversity. We celebrate Black History Month and the ongoing contributions of women throughout history, uplifting voices that have shaped our schools, our communities, and our union.
Here’s to a year of unity, progress, and purpose. Let’s continue the important work—together.
In solidarity,
Paul Szymendera
The first step to protecting your rights is knowing your rights. And in today's world, there are many controversial and hot-button issues that educators have to deal with both in the classroom and in their personal lives. NYSUT's Know Your Rights resources are a series of videos and documents that address many topics that are important to our members.
Please note that these are general guides about high-level topics. Individual situations will vary. NYSUT's dedicated team of labor relations specialists and attorneys are on hand to deal with specific issues that may impact our members.

Building transfers in the SHEA contract are addressed under Article 4.14: Vacancies, Transfers, Promotion Policy, with a focus on Voluntary Transfers (4.14.1), Involuntary Transfers (4.15.2), and a special note on Involuntary Transfer for Elementary Teachers (4.15.3). Here's a summary of each:
