President's Message:
As we move through March and set our sights on April, Spring Break is on the horizon—a well-deserved pause that we’ve all earned. Whether you plan to travel, rest, or simply recharge, we hope you take this time to care for yourself.
This season also marks NYSUT’s annual Winter Leadership Conference, where many of our building representatives and union leaders gather regionally to strengthen their skills, connect with peers, and engage in meaningful professional development. Being a rep is often a thankless job, but it is essential work. Their dedication to advocating for staff, navigating challenges, and growing as leaders does not go unnoticed.

The first step to protecting your rights is knowing your rights. And in today's world, there are many controversial and hot-button issues that educators have to deal with both in the classroom and in their personal lives. NYSUT's Know Your Rights resources are a series of videos and documents that address many topics that are important to our members.
Please note that these are general guides about high-level topics. Individual situations will vary. NYSUT's dedicated team of labor relations specialists and attorneys are on hand to deal with specific issues that may impact our members.

The 403(b) contributions in the SHEA contract are explained in Article 2.14, and they involve a district-matching program designed to encourage retirement savings. Here’s a clear breakdown of how it works:
District Contribution Match (Article 2.14.1)

The District will match 100% of an employee’s contribution to their 403(b) account, up to an annual maximum, based on salary step:
