Message from SHEA President:
As another school year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank each of you for the dedication, professionalism, and compassion you have shown throughout the year. Every day, you have made a difference in the lives of our students—often in ways that extend far beyond the classroom. Whether you taught a new concept, coached a team, comforted a struggling student, or simply provided a safe and welcoming place to learn, your work has mattered.
This is also a time to recognize our retirees. On behalf of the entire Sweet Home Education Association, congratulations on reaching this incredible milestone. Your years of service have helped shape our district, influenced countless students, and mentored generations of colleagues. While your daily presence in our schools will be missed, your legacy will continue through the lives you've touched. We wish each of you a retirement filled with good health, happiness, new adventures, and well-earned time with family and friends.
Although the school year is ending, our work as an Association continues. This spring, educators across New York came together to advocate for Fix Tier 6, reminding lawmakers that every educator deserves a fair and dignified retirement. Regardless of your retirement tier, this effort demonstrated what unions do best—we stand together. Many of the retirement benefits enjoyed by veteran educators today were secured because previous generations advocated for those who followed. Today, we have the opportunity to continue that tradition by supporting the next generation of educators. Thank you to everyone who contacted legislators, attended rallies, or helped keep this issue at the forefront. Your advocacy mattered!
Now it's time to enjoy something equally important—a chance to recharge.
Summer offers each of us the opportunity to step away from lesson plans, grading, meetings, and deadlines to focus on ourselves and the people who matter most. Spend time with family and friends. Take that vacation you've been planning. Read a good book, work in the garden, play a round of golf, sit on the beach, or simply enjoy a slower pace for a while. We often remind our students about the importance of balance and wellness; summer is our opportunity to practice what we preach.
Of course, for many educators, summer also provides the opportunity to continue learning. The Sweet Home Teacher Center has once again assembled a variety of professional development opportunities designed to help you grow while offering the flexibility to fit your summer schedule. Whether you choose to complete an online book study, earn a digital badge, or simply return in September refreshed and reenergized, remember that professional growth is a journey—not a race.
Thank you for another outstanding year of supporting one another, advocating for our profession, and putting students first. I hope you have a safe, relaxing, and well-deserved summer. I look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for another great school year this fall.
Have a wonderful summer!

Why Does SHEA Endorse Board of Education Candidates?
Every spring, members ask why SHEA considers endorsing candidates for the Board of Education. The answer is simple: the Board of Education makes decisions that directly impact our students, our schools, and the professionals who serve them every day.
Our endorsement is never based on finding someone who will simply agree with every recommendation placed before them. In fact, we value Board members who ask thoughtful questions, seek transparency, carefully examine the facts, and make informed decisions. Healthy discussion and respectful debate lead to better outcomes for everyone.
When considering a candidate, SHEA looks for individuals who believe in the value of public education and understand the importance of investing in students. We support candidates who recognize that maintaining strong academic programs, extracurricular opportunities, and student services requires attracting and retaining outstanding educators. Competitive salaries and benefits are not simply employee issues—they are essential to recruiting and keeping the talented professionals our students deserve.
After thoughtful consideration, SHEA is proud to endorse Jessica Stephens for the Sweet Home Board of Education.
Jessica has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to our school community. She has served on numerous district committees, volunteered through our PTAs, and, as a parent of children currently attending Sweet Home schools, understands firsthand the opportunities and challenges facing our district. She brings the perspective of an engaged parent, a committed volunteer, and a community member who wants Sweet Home to continue moving forward.
Board elections shape the future of our schools. We encourage every eligible member to vote and to support candidates who share a commitment to strong public schools, fiscal responsibility, transparency, and putting students first.

Don't hesitate.
