President's Message:
As we begin the 2024–2025 school year, I want to extend a warm welcome back to each of you. I hope your summer was restful and rejuvenating. The start of a new school year always brings a renewed sense of purpose, and your dedication to our students and community continues to inspire.
This September/October issue will highlight a new focus for our SHEA Voice: "Know Your Rights." We will be utilizing resources from NYSUT to help us all be more aware of our rights as teachers and the protections we are afforded. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to contact one of our SHEA Officers.
Together, let’s make this year one of connection, creativity, and continued excellence.

The first step to protecting your rights is knowing your rights. And in today's world, there are many controversial and hot-button issues that educators have to deal with both in the classroom and in their personal lives. NYSUT's Know Your Rights resources are a series of videos and documents that address many topics that are important to our members.
Please note that these are general guides about high-level topics. Individual situations will vary. NYSUT's dedicated team of labor relations specialists and attorneys are on hand to deal with specific issues that may impact our members.
